Selfie and the experience of the virtual image

Ensayo donde hablo sobre la selfie y la experiencia de la imagen virtual; cambio de paradigmas cognoscitivos en relación a la imagen y la fotografía.

Abstract

People know the world through images; new realities are created and new identities are developed. Consequently, portraits may become a representation of one’s personality and a reflection of the society of spectacle. These digital pictures change the experience of memory and inherently trace back to photographs. Thus, the “screen” mediates the relations among people and the information flow carrying different meanings. In this way, the photographic material and the virtual image will be analyzed, and distinctions will be noted regarding the aesthetic experience, specifically regarding the self-portrait and the selfie.

Augmented  Reality  experience  in  contemporary  art

Abstract

We   have   always   search   for   new   ways   to   improve the   daily   work   instruments   to facilitate  our  tasks.  Their  development has  been the  consequence  of  a  long research  and  trial.  At  the  present,  technology  has  achieved  to  create  alternative  realities  to  our  world.  The  progress  of  virtual  reality  led  to  a  new  interface:  Augmented  reality  (AR). This  two  are  examples  of  innovation  in  the  field  of  computing,  however  they  have  reached   the   everyday.
  In   order   to   understand   their   latest   role   in   daily  life,   it   is  necessary  to  define  them  and  highlight  their  differences.Virtual   reality   refers   to   a   representation   of   data   into   simulated   objects   or  areas,  whereas  augmented  reality  is  the  mix  of  physical spaces  with  virtual  information.  In  other   words,   with  AR   the   user   never   ceases   the   immediate   connection   with   its  context  because  the  actual world  is  enhanced by  the  virtual.
As   mentioned,   this   type   of   interface   can   be   found   in   devices   we   own   such   as  cellphones,  PDA,  electronic  pads,  etc.  Consequently,  the experience  and  interactions
through the  world  change. With that  in  mind,  the  interest  of  the  present  paper  is  to
study   the   aesthetic   experience   of   the   user,   in   particular   the   case   of   pieces   of
contemporary  art  that  use  AR. The   aim   is   to   analyse   certain elements   that   have   part   in   the   perception   of   the  augmented   reality. Those   being   the   role   of   privacy or   the   lack   of   it,   and   the  surveillance,  but  more  specifically  the  connection  between  the  spectators  and  an  art  practice  that  uses  AR  as  a  mean  to  an
amplified  artistic experience.

Everyday Aesthetics in Contemporary Art

Abstract

This article examines the relatively new field of everyday aesthetics and its use in artistic works. I argue anyone can have an aesthetic experience regardless of the source, in the sense that it can happen during daily activities and from the appreciation of banal objects. In addition, contemporary art explores the significance of the prosaic and how people react to a new approach that often requires the active participation of the audience. It also examines the connection established between the beholder and the artwork that uses an aesthetic seen in the everyday but that is usually taken from granted.

Telefonía móvil: espacio híbrido para las prácticas artísticas

Resumen

El ensayo aborda el uso de ciertas tecnologías móviles, en especial la telefónica, dentro del campo artístico. Se examina el uso de estos objetos para crear experiencias artísticas que en la mayoría de los casos quedan fuera de un lugar específico, es decir que pueden ser en un espacio virtual y temporal. Además estas prácticas requieren de la participación activa del espectador quien se convierte en coautor. Las obras que se analizan reúnen estas características y muestran la complejidad entre la tecnología móvil y el usuario.

Abstract

The paper approaches the use of mobile technologies within art, being the telephone in our special interest. These objects are studied, and the experiences created by them that in most cases do not take place in a specific site. They can occur in a virtual and temporary space.These practices require the active participation of the beholder who becomes a co-author of the piece. The works of art that are analysed have all these characteristics and show the complexity between the mobile technology and the user.
